After our stopover at Camp Spik, Premantura on the peninsula was our first destination in Croatia – and for Fred the first time in Croatia at all. The peninsula is well known, well developed and full of campsites. The site itself was huge, but rather chaotic: no marked pitches, everything a bit wildly thrown together, and the sanitary facilities were more like festival toilets. Not exactly made with love. On top of that there was a lot going on both on the water and ashore – speedboats, quads, the full programme.
What saved it for us were our stand-up paddle trips. The water was beautifully clear, and we paddled along the coast. We landed on small islets and even made it to a cave at the end of the peninsula.
That was a proper tourist hotspot though, with plenty of hustle to match. All in all it was an okay start in Croatia, but the campsite is definitely not one of our favourites. Spoiler: there are much nicer ones in Croatia – more on that later.
